For this, Gui Minhai was imprisoned. The prize is awarded in honour of his tireless work for the cause of free speech, in support of his release and right to resume his publishing activities."

The Anna Politovskaya Memorial Prize is awarded annually by the Swedish Publicists’ Association to a journalist who has distinguished themselves in their defense of the freedom of expression.
