POETRY FROM PRISON
Gui Minhai began writing poetry as a university student. During his time in detention between October 2015 to October 2017, he wasn’t allowed pen and paper – but memorised a collection of poems which he later wrote down while in residential surveillance in late 2017.
His poems from prison were translated into Swedish and published as a bilingual Swedish-Chinese collection titled Jag ritar en dörr på väggen med fingret (‘I Draw a Door on the Wall With My Finger’) by Kaunitz-Olsson in 2020.
In 2022, Leipziger Literaturverlag published a German translation with the title Ich zeichne mit dem Finger eine Tür auf die Wand.
